#20 Liebster Blog Awards

30 Nov

Good evening ladies! I have some very exciting news which I can’t wait to share. This morning I was checking my comments and saw that Glam Life Without Strife (http://glamlifewithoutstrife.wordpress.com/) has nominated me for the Liebster Blog Awards! I am so excited about this. I started my blog a month ago (to the day!) and it feels so good to get some recognition. Whenever I post, I feel like noone even reads what I say! So as you can imagine, this really has made my day! So thank you so much! You can see her post about it here, and you should definitely read her blog!

Here are the rules:  The person nominated must answer the 5 questions given by the person who nominated them AND tell 5 random facts about yourself. Then, nominate 5 blogs with under 200 followers, make sure to tell them you nominated them! Ask the people you nominate 5 questions of your own.  Optional: proudly display the Liebster blog award icon on you blog! Sorry if I have nominated you and you have more than 200 followers, just sharing the blogger love!

Liebster Blog Awards

Questions (for me):

1. Which are your favorite drugstore and high end brands?

This is quite hard for me as I love drugstore products. However I think my favourite would have to be Rimmel, it is super affordable and is always of a good quality. My favourite product of theirs is the Stay Matte Powder (I use the shade Translucent) and I use it everyday over foundation or BB cream. A close second would probably be Maybelline which is a tad more expensive, but still amazing. I don’t own many high end products, but my favourite high end brand is probably Benefit. I always stop and browse their counters, the ladies are always so pleasant. I love their packaging too!

2. If you could only use 5 makeup products, what would they be?

Tough one! Definitely a mascara, my current favourite is the Loreal Double Extension Mascara which is amazing! My Rimmel Wake Me Up Foundation, Rimmel Stay Matte powder, Bourjois blush pot and Burts Bees Pomegranate Lip Balm would fill the remaining spots. Really hard to choose just 5 though!

3. What is your favorite thing to blog about?

I really like doing product reviews and favourites. I love doing reviews so people can read my opinions and see whether (for me) they live up to the hype. Whenever I think about investing in a new product I ALWAYS check reviews on beauty blogs. Favourites are a great showcase of a few of the products I have been enjoying and using recently.

4. What is the next product you plan on buying?

I really want to treat myself to a Benefit product. I am saving up my advantage points at Boots so hopefully I will be able to use my points to buy the They’re Real Mascara. I have heard so many good things about it, I really want to try it for myself!

5. What is your favorite color nail polish to wear?

I think it depends on the time of the year. Over the Summer, my nails were always painted a pastel colour, usually from Barry M. My favourites were mint green and pale corals. However, now we are in autumn I prefer darker, more classic colours. My favourites at the moment are wine and navy nail polishes.

5 Random Facts about me!

1. I study Biochemistry and Microbiology at University.

2. I have really dry skin, so I am always trying out new products for this.

3. I live in the North of England, but come from the Midlands originally.

4. I adore Cath Kidston, the floral prints are gorgeous!

5. I love dogs! I always wanted one when I was younger, but my parents never let me!

Now, for my nominees. I love reading blogs and here are a few of my favourites:

Diary of a Beauty Addict

This is NancyLand

Vinegar and Water

Make Up Loves

A Little Blog by Little Jess

Here are my questions for my nominees:

1. If you were stuck on a desert island, what one make up product would you want with you?

2. What is your favourite skincare brand (drugstore or high end) and why?

3. Do you prefer your eyeshadow bold or neutral?

4. What is your favourite lipstick shade?

5. If you could only use one make up brand, what would it be?

GO GO GO :)

#19 Daily Lust – Benefit Gift Sets

27 Nov

I love Christmas shopping, especially for beauty items. When all of the gorgeous gift sets come out and Boots start their 3 for 2 offer, I find it so hard to not treat myself! Christmas gifts sets are the perfect opportunity to test products as they sometimes come in sample sizes. The packaging is always beautiful too. A brand that I am constantly lusting over is Benefit. I have used a couple of their products when the samples came with Glamour a few months back, and adored them. After browsing their website tonight, I just had to do a blog post about them. Here are a few of my favourites.

Benefit Upgrade to Gorgeous! – £35

Benefit Let There Be Bright! – £39

Feelin’ Dandy – £24.50

How to Look the Best at Everything – £24.50

How amaaaazing are these, the packaging is fab! (we would expect nothing less from Benefit).  Another thing I like about these is that they come with a little instruction booklet, full of tips to get the most out of the products. This could be really helpful if you were giving this to someone who  is new to make-up, or is just starting their collection. These kits are such good value for money, especially as you are able to try so many different products.

I am lusting over every single one of these, they are definitely going on my birthday/christmas list.

#18 Weekend Wishlist – the Christmas Jumper Edition

24 Nov

Well everyone, the Christmas season is definitely upon us. I love this time of year, the cities are always beautifully decorated and full of Christmas markets. It all puts me in a great mood. In fact, my housemates and I decorated our house this week! We raided Poundland, they have some awesome Christmas decorations – definitely worth having a look! For this weekends wishlist, I have gone with a Christmas jumper theme. I am really regretted not picking one up when I popped to Meadowhall a couple of weeks ago. Here are a few of my favourites:

1. Boohoo Shauna Christmas Tree Jumper, £15

2. Boohoo Nicole Father Christmas Jumper, £15

3. ASOS Christmas Pattern Jumper, £32

4. New Look Charcoal Scenic Reindeer Knitted Jumper, £27.99

5. River Island Red Christmas Fairisle Jumper, £35

6. Ebay Christmas Pudding Jumper, £19.99

I have been really impressed with Boohoo’s knitwear pieces this season. They have some great designs at great prices – especially their novelty Christmas jumpers! And of course, New Look, River Island and ASOS never disappoint. If you’re looking for some Christmas jumpers, eBay is definitely worth a look. The seller from the link above has a few designs, I love them all.

I love Christmas jumpers, they make me happy. There are so many great designs out there (check out Primark), it was hard knocking my selection down to 6! I know it is not even December yet, but no bah-humbugs allowed here!! :) So will you be treating yourself or your loved ones to a fab Christmas jumper?

#17 Brand Focus – e.l.f

22 Nov

Another brand focus today! Sorry for the lack of posts, I am currently looking for a house for the next academic year which is so stressful. I have looked at around 7 so far and they have been so disgustingly messy! Anyway, I diverge. I have known about e.l.f for quite a while now, however I didn’t place my first order until October this year. I really don’t know why I didn’t place an order earlier.

I always read about e.l.f products in beauty blogs, and most have good reviews. When I saw that they had a 50% off offer when you spent £50, I finally gave in and placed a massive order. Overall, I purchased 16 items which gave a total of £29 when delivery was added. Complete bargain.

I brought a mixture of items – brushes, make-up, brush cleaners etc :) First thing to say is their brushes are incredible. My top two are their Studio powder and stipple brushes. £3.75 each and such good quality, giving an even application. I also brought a few eye brushes which are also of a good quality, even though they are just from the standard range. My other top products from this haul are the mineral moisturising lip tints in rose and guava, they are so moisturising and have a great pigmentation.

e.l.f always have great offers on their site (free delivery, free gifts etc) which can be oh so tempting! They communicate really well via twitter and facebook too. Delivery was super fast, I have no complaints at all! Great products, great service and at a great price. If you haven’t purchased anything from e.l.f. before I would definitely recommend them as a company!

#16 Lush Bubblegum Lip Scrub Review

20 Nov

I have never purchased a Lush product before but I have been into a few of their shops. The staff are always really friendly and offer great tips and advice about products. I popped into the Sheffield branch last weekend with a couple of my housemates and ended up buying my first product! I brought the Lip Scrub in Bubblegum. I tested it in the shop and knew I had to buy it.

Firstly, the smell. Oh my god. This smells incredible, it does smell exactly like bubblegum (as the name would suggest!). As a lip scrub, it works a treat. It really does exfoliate the lips, but without being too abrasive and tastes yummy too. Once you have used it your lips feel so smooth. I found myself just licking my lips after I tried it! My lips always get really dry and chapped, especially during winter and this has helped so much. It also contains organic jojoba oil which is super moisturising.

This 25g pot cost £5.25, which does sound quite costly especially as the scrub is pretty much made up of castor sugar with a few added extras. But this really does work, and you don’t have to use a lot when using it. So it will last for a long time, and I have used it everyday since I brought it so I know I will get my moneys worth. I like the packaging too, and it tells you when exactly it was made (13/09/12) and who made it (thanks Lukasz!) which I thought was a nice little touch.

Overall, I am really happy I brought this scrub. My housemate brought it in the Mint flavour, they also had a popcorn flavour. But for me it just had to be bubblegum. I would definitely buy this again, and I am definitely going to look into the other products that Lush make :) Also, they have some great Christmas gifts if you are looking for some presents!

#15 Weekend Wishlist – Missguided

18 Nov

I did a blog post all about Missguided a little while back (see it here), where I confessed my love for them. Everyday since I find myself scouring through their website, lusting over every item of clothing they have, whether it be party dresses or chunky knits. I just love their pieces, bang on trend without the hefty price tag! So for this weekends wishlist I have dedicated it to Missguided. All of the items are from Missguided, and if I wasn’t a poor student I would have bought them all! (along with most of the pieces on the website!!)

1. Sylvia Stud Disco Legging in Navy, £12.99 – I have a pair of black disco pant leggings from Missguided which I live in. It seems only right to be wanting a navy pair, and with the added studs they look amazing. So versatile, and at a great price.

2. Kimmie Chunky Knit Owl Jumper, £14.99 – How cute is this owl jumper? It looks so warm too, and I love the khaki colour. Perfect for layering with some gold jewellery. I love the way they have styled it on the website too with the chiffon skater skirt!

3. Adelie Leather Stud Ankle Boot in Black, £34.99 – These boots are gorgeous! They are studded which I love and on top of that they have a tassel detail too which is a great addition. They come in a few different colours, but for me it would have to be black.

4. Fiorenza Plaited Shopping Bag in Purple, £26.99 – The colour of this bag sold it to me. It is a beautiful purple colour, perfect for autumn/winter. It looks big and spacious too, so would be perfect for students on the go.

5. Julissa Sequin Skater Dress, £29.99 – I think Missguided are best known for their party dresses, and this seasons pieces do not disappoint. They have some amazing dresses which would be perfect for Christmas or New Year celebrations. I love skater dresses as they are so flattering for my body shape. The sequin detail of this dress gives it the right amount of sparkle for me, it’s fab!

#14 ASOS Haul

16 Nov

Hello lovelies :) I recently did a tiny little ASOS haul, nothing too major but they had 25% student discount and 30% off Rimmel London. (They know the way to my heart what can I say?!)

ASOS Oversized top. £12 – I picked this up in grey, sorry the picture quality isn’t too great. This top is so big and comfy. Comfort is key for me when I am going into uni for lectures. I wore this the other day with my disco pants, chelsea boots and a gold statement necklace. I also received a few compliments when I wore this too! I have rolled the sleeves up on the top, but that is just down to personal preference :)

I also picked up a couple of metallic nail polishes. I brought the Rimmel London Precious Stones Nail Polish in 002 Ruby Crush, £2.79 (usually £3.99) and the Barry M Sparkles Nail Polish in 325 Denim, £2.99. I have brought a couple of Rimmel London polishes in the past and they have been really good value for money. When I saw this I thought of one thing, CHRISTMAS. It looks like Christmas in a bottle, I am wearing it at the moment and it is so gorgeous. I have a layer of Barry M Raspberry underneath but I don’t really know if it is necessary! It gives a full coverage glitter, and is so sparkly! LOVE. I haven’t used the Denim colour yet but when I do I will probably upload a photo to instagram/twitter. From the brush it looks beautiful!

The final two items I brought were two Rimmel London Kate Lipsticks in shades 22 and 26, £3.84 (usually £5.49). There is a little bit of a story about these lipsticks. I originally ordered a shade 22, which from the colour chart looked like a nude/coral shade. When it arrived it was bright red (I was confused), I checked the colour chart to see whether I had made a mistake but it turns out ASOS had labelled the wrong shade. When I emailed them to alert them of the problem they said I could keep the lipstick I already had (as a thank you and a gesture of good will), and the correct nude/coral shade (shade 26) would be sent to me by next day delivery. I was pretty happy, it just shows the great customer service that ASOS have! Both of the shades are gorgeous! Shade 22 is a vivid red, while 26 is a very subtle nude/coral shade. The nude shade is very different for me, and I am not sure whether it suits me! I love the colour pay off and formulation of these lipsticks and would definitely recommend them!

I love ASOS, their customer service is amazing. I can’t help but give in to their flash discounts! Sorry bank account.

#13 Brand Focus – She Said Beauty

14 Nov

I am a lover of social media. I may also love beauty products (I don’t know if you’re aware…). What do you get if you mix the two together? She Said Beauty. I had been thinking about creating a She Said Beauty profile for quite a while now but I never really got around to it. When She Said Beauty followed me on Twitter, they told me about linking my profile to my blog. It sounded like a great idea to me, so I went for it and joined!

When you join they ask you a few questions (skin type, hair type, favourite scents etc), I presume that these are used if you subscribe to their beauty box, so they can choose products tailored to you. Their She Said Beauty box is £9.00 (+ £2.95 P+P). I have been close to subscribing so many times in the past! (Hate being a poor student, It would be great to review on this blog though) The packaging looks really nice and feminine too.

Once you have completed your beauty profile, you can start customising your profile. I uploaded a photo, wrote a little bit about me, and changed my cover photo to one of their default images.

This is where the social media comes in. You can link in all of your different social media platforms to your profile. I have linked my blog and my twitter. My blog has been synced, so my new blog posts will also show on my She Said Beauty profile.

HOW COOL RIGHT? After I had finished customising my profile I started to like some of my favourite brands and products.

I had to restrain myself from spending hours going through products and liking them! As well as liking them, you can also review them. This is super handy;  if I was considering purchasing a new beauty product I could consult She Said Beauty and see whether it has been good for other people (especially handy if what you were lusting over was quite costly, nobody wants to spend £20 on a new product and it turns out to be rubbish!!)

Another thing I like about She Said Beauty is that they are really in touch with their users. They are always tweeting, and having conversations with users. They post links to articles and beauty debates too, so everyone can get involved. Everyone knows I love a good competition or freebie (just check my twitter page!) and they have those too! Can they do no wrong?

Overall, I think I may be in love. I love the concept of She Said Beauty, bringing together beauty and social media. It is a great opportunity for everyone to get involved and join the beauty conversation! You can follow other peoples profiles, comment on new posts, and become a beauty community!

Fancy joining? GO FOR IT :) Join me and so many others. My username is BFLifexo (the same as my Twitter), you can find my profile here.

#12 Meadowhall Haul

13 Nov

As promised this is going to be a haul post, featuring all of the stuff I picked up at Meadowhall over the weekend! Mum, my aunt, my cousin and I all go Christmas shopping every year at Meadowhall, it is amazing. You could get all of your presents in one day if you needed! Whilst I was there I did pick up a few treats for myself (couldn’t help myself!). Apologies in advance for the very poor quality of the photos, the lighting is not good in my room as one of the lights is broken. Sorry! You will see a common theme in the clothes I bought – Comfortable, warm, versatile pieces!

First up Topshop. I had a quick look through the sale  rails but really could see nothing, I was a bit disappointed to be honest! Instead I picked up these 2 items. The red tee is a gorgeous marl colour (which I loveeee), and is longer at the back so you can wear it with leggings for extra comfort. I will probably pair it with my disco pants from Missguided, my leather jacket and black chelsea boots. Its super comfy, cost £14 and you can find it here. The second is more of a thicker knit material, 3/4 sleeves and is more of a tunic than a jumper. If you look carefully the knit has all different colours in it, which I think is gorgeous! It was a bit more expensive, £26, but is a lot thicker, you can find it here. I got 10% student discount on both these items, and I know I will wear them lots as they are so easy to wear!

New Look next, I had a browse on my Voucher Codes app and found one for 25% in store! I was happy (as you would expect) and had the plan to buy a gorgeous khaki parka which I had my eye on for so long. Low and behold, they didn’t have it (GUTTED), I was super surprised as the New Look in Meadowhall is so big. Never mind hey! Instead I picked up another jumper (you can never have enough right?). This one again has 3/4 sleeves and is long enough to wear with leggings. It is quite a thin knit, I would wear a vest underneath for added warmth! At £15 (well £11 with the 25% off) I didn’t think it was too bad, see it here. I got it navy, but I may pick up a couple of other colours, the pale blue one is so nice!

And of course, Primark. I wasn’t too impressed with their jumpers this season, however they do have some amazing Christmas jumpers. I always find that the men’s section is the best place for jumpers in the winter! I restrained myself from buying a Christmas jumper, but it has to be done, and I need one in my life. I did pick up a few winter bits and bobs though. I get pretty much all of my pyjamas from Primark, they are always so cheap and comfortable. I could not leave the shop without buying these amazing Disney Christmas pj bottoms, they kind of fit like a legging. I love the print and they were only £7!! I am not usually a hat person but this bobble hat stole my heart, a beautiful red colour, thick knit and £3. These ear muffs are super cute and so warm, and again only £3!! Primark have done so well on their winter accessories this year, I am so impressed! However, the best purchase of the day was definitely these gloves. Anyone who has a touch screen phone will know the terror of having to take your gloves off to take a call or send a text during the winter. These my friends, are TOUCH SCREEN GLOVES. That’s right. For £1.50 (YOU HEARD ME CORRECTLY) you can buy these gloves and have the joy of texting your friends with warm hands. They do actually work (I tried them in the shop!), and come in grey and black. Mind. Blown.

Hope you enjoyed this post, there will be another haul post coming up soon. (may have placed a cheeky ASOS order, whooops…). On another note, I am so excited for Christmas. We organised our house secret santa last night so I need to get thinking about what to get. Also, why are men so hard to buy for? I have a couple of little ideas for stocking fillers for my boyfriend, but no main present ideas. I am so stuck for ideas! If anyone has any ideas, or top websites for gifts. PLEASE let me know! I am running out of time!

So have you started your Christmas shopping? or are you more of a last minute present buyer?

#11 Weekend Wishlist

11 Nov

Bonjourrrr, sorry for not posting yesterday. I was busy at Meadowhall doing some Christmas shopping, and brought myself a couple of treats too while I was there. Fingers crossed I will be able to do a blog post about them early next week (hopefully). This weekends wishlist is beauty themed. The list of beauty items I want is incredibly long, but I have narrowed it down to 5 items. I have tried to keep it quite varied too :)

Models Own Nail Polish in Thunder and Lightning, £5 – I have a thing for nail polishes, and this one is ticking all of the right boxes for me. It is a classic colour with a metallic sheen, with multicoloured glitter. I first saw this on the Models Own Swatched page (which is super handy) and it looked amazing. I tried to find it in Boots yesterday but they didn’t have it (super sad face). I may have to add this to my Christmas list, it would make a good stocking filler.

ELF Duo Eyeshadow Cream in Butter Pecan, £1.50 – ELF is a company that I have only recently found and I love them. I did a big order with them previously and ordered this in Sugar Cookie and was really impressed with the finish and pigmentation of it. The Butter Pecan shades are really autumnal and with them being browns they are wearable too. Did I mention the price? £1.50!!

Benefit They’re Real Mascara, £18.50 – I love my L’oreal Double Extension mascara but I think it may be coming to its end. I have read so many good reviews on this product, and costing £18.50 it needs to be good! I may treat myself to this using my Boots Advantage points after Christmas, and hopefully it will live up to the hype!

Soap and Glory Hand Food, £5 – Who doesn’t love Soap and Glory? and who doesn’t need another hand cream in their life?! I have had the mini size of this in the past and loved it. It smells amazing, leaves your hands feeling super soft and doesn’t come with a hefty price tag either.

L’occitane Ultra Rich Eye Balm, £24 – I have never used a L’occitane product before, but I have always read and heard good things. The one thing I hate about winter is how damaging it can be to my skin. It really dries it out, leaving it looking so dull. And recently I have noticed dry patches around my eyes and this looks like it should be able to help! It is quite costly at £24, but if it works I wouldn’t mind spending that much.

Have you used any of these products? Did you have a good or bad experience with them? Drop me a comment, tweet or email and get involved! You can find out my contact details here.
