#38 Soap and Glory Showers That Glee Review

31 Dec

You may have read my birthday post and saw that I was given the Soap and Glory Showers That Glee set. I was so exciting as I LOVE Soap and Glory products and have done for a while now. It was also full of products that I haven’t used before. I have been using the products daily ever since my birthday so thought I would give you a little review!

Showers That Glee

The Butter Yourself body cream is fab. It smells incredible and is super moisturising. It contains shea butter which leaves my skin feeling so soft and hydrated. I use this product after I have showered, but I don’t use it everyday. I do use Foam Call everyday when I am in the bath or shower. Again it smells amazing, as all Soap and Glory products do. This and the Pulp Friction scrub both contain the Fruitigo fragrance which is made up of fig, frozen yuzu, orange oil and pomelo essence. They give the products a citrus and fruity scent which I love. The Foam call body wash is just an all round top body wash. The only disadvantage of getting this in the set is that it doesn’t come with a pump which I prefer. But that is just personal preference, the product is still amazing! The Pulp Friction scrub works really well for me leaving my skin feeling really smooth and soft. I don’t use fake tan so I can’t comment on how well it works with that, but I love it! The hair turban and shower puff just finish the set off for me and I love them too!

The set was originally £20 which is really good value considering the value of the individual products. If you are lucky you may still be able to pick one up in the 1/2 price sale for £10 in your local Boots. They have sold out where I live and I think they have online too as I couldn’t find a link! I hope you enjoyed this post, let me know if you did and remember to press the follow button!

#36 Boxing Day Sales Haul

27 Dec

Hi everyone, hope you all had a wonderful Christmas! Yesterday (Boxing Day) I was up at 5.30am to get ready for the sales! It is a tradition for my mum, aunt, cousin and I. We go every year! I didn’t actually get too much which was a bit of a disappointment. Here is what I purchased!

 Boxing Day Sales

First up Next, which was manic as it is every year! I couldn’t find too much that I really needed here. However, their homeware section is incredible and there were many bargains to be had! I got myself a new pair of jeans which are a bit of a brighter navy than normal for £10 (originally £20). I also picked up this hat which I thought was pretty cute for £3!

Boxing Day Sales

Secondly, Boots. I purchased two gift sets for myself that were half price. This 17 Eye and Lip Trio was £3 (originally £6) and I picked it up on a whim really. It contains a black liquid eye liner, an eyeshadow in the shade Regal and a lip gloss in the shade Very Berry. I just thought for £3 it was pretty good! I couldn’t resist this Soap and Glory set either. I received their Showers that Glee set for my birthday so there was no need for me to buy any bath/body products. However I have never used their make up so I thought I would get this and give it a try. The set cost £11 (originally £22) and contained the Love at First Blush blusher, Smoulder Kohl in black and Sexy Mother Pucker (best. name. ever.) in Punchbowl. I love them so far. I also purchased a couple of L’Oreal items that I needed. I have been looking for a new liquid eye liner for a while so I picked up this Super Liner Perfect Slim liner in Black. I was also in need of a new foundation so picked up the True Match foundation in Golden Ivory. Because I spent over £15 on L’Oreal products I received this free ‘Dress Up In Diamonds’ set!

Boxing Day Sales

In this free set, I received a sample pot of Revitalift (5ml), Volume Million Lashes Diamantissme (8.5ml), Color Riche Diamantissme Lipstick in 325 Ferric Fuschia, Color Riche Crystallisme Topcoat in number 820 (5ml) and a sample sachet of Nude Magique and True Match. I also received a money off voucher for the True Match foundation. I was quite impressed when I got home and saw what was inside! The lipstick is full size and the colour pay off is gorgeous!

Boxing Day Sales

And lastly New Look. I actually didn’t buy anything from their sale (I just couldn’t see anything!). However, I did pick up this bag for £19.99. I have been looking for a new handbag for a while and this fitted the bill for me! It is a versatile colour and is really quite spacious! It has an inside pocket too, handy for keys and my iPhone.

I hope you liked this post and picked up some bargains at the sales. If you did, tweet me, I want to know all about them!

PS. I haven’t included any links to the products as most are sale items and have sold out online. I looked for a link to New Look bag but it was not online either! Sorry guys!

#34 My Christmas Jumper Quest

23 Dec

You may have seen a couple of weeks ago I did a Christmas jumper edition of my Weekend Wishlist. It showed my favourite Christmas jumpers available and lots of you had a good look at them, I hope you all found one you liked! Last week I tried to purchase the Christmas tree Boohoo jumper I featured but unfortunately it had sold out. Thus my quest began.

Ever since then I have been searching high and low for a Christmas jumper. I looked everywhere. ASOS. Missguided. Boohoo. Topshop. Miss Selfridge. Nothing. I didn’t really fancy ordering online as I did not want to risk it not coming in time for the big day. So my quest sent me to shopping centres. I visited the new Primark in my area and low and behold, nothing. I first saw the Christmas jumpers in Primark at Meadowhall in November and I knew I should have purchased one then! Hindsight is a wonderful thing I guess!

I visited a seperate shopping centre today and tried New Look, H&M and Outfit. Still nothing. Just when I thought all was lost, I popped into my town centre on a whim. I saw a new independent shop and took a chance. Look what I found!

Christmas Jumper

It was the last one in the shop and so I just grabbed it! It was £12 which was a complete bargain and I love it. The print is so cute and I love the festive red colour.

Christmas Jumper

*Insert obligatory mirror photo* Do excuse it and the ironing board in the background! I’m so happy I have found a jumper to wear on Christmas day now!

Have you got your Christmas jumper for the 25th? Or do you prefer to dress up more formal for the occasion? Let me know!

#33 Stylfile S-Clipper Review

22 Dec

Hi everyone! I love The Apprentice – I just can’t get enough of it. I never really used to get into it. I used to watch a few episodes and then be done with it until a couple of years ago, then I was hooked. This years Young Apprentice has just finished (yay Ashleigh!) but I do much prefer the ‘adult’ version (not that adult). A couple of years ago, Tom Pellereau won The Apprentice and an investment with Lord Sugar himself. After winning, Tom released his Stylfile brand whose products were focused around the natural curve of the nail. You can get all sorts of products – buffers, nail files but I will be talking about the nail clipper.

A couple of weeks ago I was lucky enough to be the runner up of a Twitter competition run by Stylfile. As you may be able to deduce from my tweets I do love a good competition and so I was thrilled to see that I was a runner up! I emailed through my address and within a couple of days my prize was at home waiting for me. I was so impressed with how quickly they posted my prize out to me!

S-Clipper

I have used this product a couple of times now and I am really pleased! The first thing to note is that it is made of surgical steel. This makes it strong and long-lasting, and makes cutting the nails so easy and simple. It even works on false nails! The best feature of the S-Clipper are the curved blades. They give a smooth and controlled cut to the nail and prevent clippings from flying all over the place (be honest, we have all been there) as the nail drops onto the surface below.

I think this is such a great product, I don’t know how there hasn’t been a product like this before!

The S-clipper is available at Sainsburys and also online at Amazon here.

#32 Last Minute Gift Inspiration – Lauren Conrad ‘Beauty’

21 Dec

Hi everyone! Hope you are all well. Christmas is so close now so everyone is around doing their last minute Christmas shopping and making sure everything is ready for the big day. Are you in need of a final present to finish off but are you lacking some giftspiration? (see what I did there?!) Well if you are looking for a pressie for your girlfriend, wife, sister, best friend etc look no further than Lauren Conrad ‘Beauty’.

Lauren Conrad 'Beauty'

I have always loved Lauren Conrad. I used to spent my teenage years following her story from Laguna Beach to The Hills and beyond. I always longed for her natural beauty and endless, perfectly waved golden locks. She is so pretty and has such a classic look. If you watched the two TV shows you would have seen how her style and image has changed over the years as she has grown older and matured.

I was actually given this book as a Secret Santa present from one of my housemates , and I have been hooked ever since.

The book is full of tips and tricks for all aspects of beauty: from applying make-up, to styling hair and skincare routines. It is really well written and presented and is full of photos too. One of my favourite chapters in the book describes beauty throughout the years and shows how beauty trends have changed decade by decade. I think this book would be great for anyone with a love of beauty, even if they were just starting out (for a younger sister or teenage girl perhaps).

I would definitely recommend this book as a gift. There are other beauty based books out there, for example the Bobbi Brown Makeup Manual looks good too, and I have read great reviews of it. If the person you are buying for is more into fashion than beauty, then definitely check out Lauren Conrad ‘Style’.

You can buy Lauren Conrad ‘Beauty’ here from Amazon.

#31 My 20th Birthday + Haul

17 Dec

Hey everyone!

As you may or may not know it was my 20th birthday on Sunday (16th December), which I was super excited about! So I am going to do a quick post on here about what I got up to :)

Quick disclaimer: This is in no way a post for me to brag about what I was given for my birthday. I personally love these kinds of posts and hauls etc, as I am really interested in that kind of thing. If you are not, then there is probably not much point in carrying on reading. If you are interested, I hope you enjoy this post. I am so grateful for every single gift that was given to me, and I cannot thank my friends and loved ones enough.

On Friday, my housemates and I celebrated our last day of term together. They decided to give me my birthday present Friday evening as everyone was there, and it was so sweet of them to get me something. They came in with a huge chocolate cake, beautifully decorated with candles and a gift bag. They bought me a gorgeous Cath Kidston make-up bag and umbrella, which was so nice of them! As well as this, they also came in with two boxes of the most amazing cupcakes (which I completely forgot to take a photo of before we ate them!).

20th Birthday!

20th Birthday!

As I mentioned in my previous post, my boyfriend took me for a meal on the Saturday evening as I travelled home from uni on the Sunday afternoon. We went to an Indian restaurant close to where we live, and it was really nice. I am not too good with spice but I do love a good mild curry! Poppadoms are my weakness also, they had the most amazing dips and chutneys, I was in heaven! Here is a picture of me before we went to the restaurant. It wasn’t a super posh place, so I wore my Topshop marl tee with Missguided disco pants and Primark chelsea boots. I teamed the tee with this art-deco necklace from Primark. The lipstick I am wearing is Avon Cranberry which I featured in my November Favourites. At the restaurant I decided to try something a little different and I had a ‘Mango Delight’ curry which was delicious!

20th Birthday!

On the morning of my birthday, my boyfriend gave me my birthday present and card. I was really happy to spend it with him as it was the last time we will see each other for a while as we have both gone to our respective homes for the Christmas vacation. I was so overwhelmed by what he had got me (I was close to tears!). These Swarovski earrings were gift wrapped so nicely and are very elegant. The crystal is a lavender colour and the way they catch the light is gorgeous. They are so beautiful, he has such good taste! He was so worried that I wouldn’t like them, but I love them so much and am so thankful.

20th Birthday!

20th Birthday!

When I finally got back to my home after a couple of hours on the train, there was a little collection of birthday cards that were waiting for me full of lovely messages from friends and family. My relatives then came over as I hadn’t seen them since I left for uni in September. Here are a few snaps of what I was given.

20th Birthday!

20th Birthday!

20th Birthday!

20th Birthday!

20th Birthday!

20th Birthday!

I had a great birthday all in all (apart from a long train journey) and I am so appreciative of all of the gifts I received from my very generous loved ones.

#30 A Quick Update

15 Dec

Hi everyone!

This is just a little apology for the lack of posts over the past week! It has been a super busy time for me at the moment. I had my last lectures of 2012 so I had to complete all of my work/assignments for those. Then yesterday, we celebrated Christmas in my house by having a gorgeous roast dinner and exchanging Secret Santa presents. It was a really good day and it was nice to celebrate the end of term with the rest of my housemates.

Tomorrow (Sunday 16th) is my 20th Birthday! Ahhh super excited but at the same time kind of having  not-mid-life crisis about not being a ‘teen’ anymore! To celebrate, my boyfriend is taking me to a really nice Indian restaurant in town that I have been wanting to go to for ages! We would go on my actual birthday but I am actually travelling back home for the Christmas vacation tomorrow so we decided to do it tonight. On top of all this I still haven’t packed! I am leaving tomorrow early afternoon so I need to get a move on and get packing!

When I get home, I am actually working full time for the week before Christmas (17th-21st December) so I am going to be super tired and stressed as I need to find time for revision for my January exams too. As you can tell this really is a bit of a hectic time for me but I will try to blog as much as possible. But for the time being while I am working/revising blogging may have to take a bit of a back seat as I am not a full time blogger. I hope you can all understand!

Lots of love and Best Wishes for the Christmas period,

Jess xo

#29 Christmas in the BeautyFashionLifexo House!

13 Dec

Hi guys! This is going to be a super festive post about how we are celebrating Christmas in my house. As you may know, I am a student so I am living in a student house with 4 other girls. We all love Christmas (we decorated our house in November) and our new favourite shop is the Christmas shop in the city centre. This Friday we are making a Christmas meal together followed by watching ELF and playing Monopoly! All the while listening to a Christmas playlist on Spotify! Here are some snaps of our super festive house.

Christmas

| Our Santa sack was £1.49 (Christmas shop) and we are filling it with our Secret Santa gifts | ‘Santa Please Stop Here’ has pride of place in our window and was £1 (Christmas shop) | Our hanging snowflakes are in our kitchen doorway and were from Poundland | This cute foil tree was also from Poundland and lives on our dining table | Cute Christmas cards given to us by our neighbours | Red tinsel on the wall decorated with candy canes, both from Poundland | We all made snowflakes and scattered them across the house | We covered a canvas in wrapping paper, it looks fab! | More tinsel wrapped around our stair bannister |

Poundland has some great decorations which are such great value! It was the first place we looked for decorations (being poor students) and we were not disappointed. I also picked these up from Poundland:

Christmas

My boyfriend and I are just big kids! But at £1 I could not resist these advent calendars.

So how are you celebrating Christmas this year? Do you decorate your house like we have? Leave a comment below, I read them all and reply to as many as possible :)
