#32 Last Minute Gift Inspiration – Lauren Conrad ‘Beauty’

21 Dec

Hi everyone! Hope you are all well. Christmas is so close now so everyone is around doing their last minute Christmas shopping and making sure everything is ready for the big day. Are you in need of a final present to finish off but are you lacking some giftspiration? (see what I did there?!) Well if you are looking for a pressie for your girlfriend, wife, sister, best friend etc look no further than Lauren Conrad ‘Beauty’.

Lauren Conrad 'Beauty'

I have always loved Lauren Conrad. I used to spent my teenage years following her story from Laguna Beach to The Hills and beyond. I always longed for her natural beauty and endless, perfectly waved golden locks. She is so pretty and has such a classic look. If you watched the two TV shows you would have seen how her style and image has changed over the years as she has grown older and matured.

I was actually given this book as a Secret Santa present from one of my housemates , and I have been hooked ever since.

The book is full of tips and tricks for all aspects of beauty: from applying make-up, to styling hair and skincare routines. It is really well written and presented and is full of photos too. One of my favourite chapters in the book describes beauty throughout the years and shows how beauty trends have changed decade by decade. I think this book would be great for anyone with a love of beauty, even if they were just starting out (for a younger sister or teenage girl perhaps).

I would definitely recommend this book as a gift. There are other beauty based books out there, for example the Bobbi Brown Makeup Manual looks good too, and I have read great reviews of it. If the person you are buying for is more into fashion than beauty, then definitely check out Lauren Conrad ‘Style’.

You can buy Lauren Conrad ‘Beauty’ here from Amazon.

#17 Brand Focus – e.l.f

22 Nov

Another brand focus today! Sorry for the lack of posts, I am currently looking for a house for the next academic year which is so stressful. I have looked at around 7 so far and they have been so disgustingly messy! Anyway, I diverge. I have known about e.l.f for quite a while now, however I didn’t place my first order until October this year. I really don’t know why I didn’t place an order earlier.

I always read about e.l.f products in beauty blogs, and most have good reviews. When I saw that they had a 50% off offer when you spent £50, I finally gave in and placed a massive order. Overall, I purchased 16 items which gave a total of £29 when delivery was added. Complete bargain.

I brought a mixture of items – brushes, make-up, brush cleaners etc :) First thing to say is their brushes are incredible. My top two are their Studio powder and stipple brushes. £3.75 each and such good quality, giving an even application. I also brought a few eye brushes which are also of a good quality, even though they are just from the standard range. My other top products from this haul are the mineral moisturising lip tints in rose and guava, they are so moisturising and have a great pigmentation.

e.l.f always have great offers on their site (free delivery, free gifts etc) which can be oh so tempting! They communicate really well via twitter and facebook too. Delivery was super fast, I have no complaints at all! Great products, great service and at a great price. If you haven’t purchased anything from e.l.f. before I would definitely recommend them as a company!

#16 Lush Bubblegum Lip Scrub Review

20 Nov

I have never purchased a Lush product before but I have been into a few of their shops. The staff are always really friendly and offer great tips and advice about products. I popped into the Sheffield branch last weekend with a couple of my housemates and ended up buying my first product! I brought the Lip Scrub in Bubblegum. I tested it in the shop and knew I had to buy it.

Firstly, the smell. Oh my god. This smells incredible, it does smell exactly like bubblegum (as the name would suggest!). As a lip scrub, it works a treat. It really does exfoliate the lips, but without being too abrasive and tastes yummy too. Once you have used it your lips feel so smooth. I found myself just licking my lips after I tried it! My lips always get really dry and chapped, especially during winter and this has helped so much. It also contains organic jojoba oil which is super moisturising.

This 25g pot cost £5.25, which does sound quite costly especially as the scrub is pretty much made up of castor sugar with a few added extras. But this really does work, and you don’t have to use a lot when using it. So it will last for a long time, and I have used it everyday since I brought it so I know I will get my moneys worth. I like the packaging too, and it tells you when exactly it was made (13/09/12) and who made it (thanks Lukasz!) which I thought was a nice little touch.

Overall, I am really happy I brought this scrub. My housemate brought it in the Mint flavour, they also had a popcorn flavour. But for me it just had to be bubblegum. I would definitely buy this again, and I am definitely going to look into the other products that Lush make :) Also, they have some great Christmas gifts if you are looking for some presents!

#14 ASOS Haul

16 Nov

Hello lovelies :) I recently did a tiny little ASOS haul, nothing too major but they had 25% student discount and 30% off Rimmel London. (They know the way to my heart what can I say?!)

ASOS Oversized top. £12 – I picked this up in grey, sorry the picture quality isn’t too great. This top is so big and comfy. Comfort is key for me when I am going into uni for lectures. I wore this the other day with my disco pants, chelsea boots and a gold statement necklace. I also received a few compliments when I wore this too! I have rolled the sleeves up on the top, but that is just down to personal preference :)

I also picked up a couple of metallic nail polishes. I brought the Rimmel London Precious Stones Nail Polish in 002 Ruby Crush, £2.79 (usually £3.99) and the Barry M Sparkles Nail Polish in 325 Denim, £2.99. I have brought a couple of Rimmel London polishes in the past and they have been really good value for money. When I saw this I thought of one thing, CHRISTMAS. It looks like Christmas in a bottle, I am wearing it at the moment and it is so gorgeous. I have a layer of Barry M Raspberry underneath but I don’t really know if it is necessary! It gives a full coverage glitter, and is so sparkly! LOVE. I haven’t used the Denim colour yet but when I do I will probably upload a photo to instagram/twitter. From the brush it looks beautiful!

The final two items I brought were two Rimmel London Kate Lipsticks in shades 22 and 26, £3.84 (usually £5.49). There is a little bit of a story about these lipsticks. I originally ordered a shade 22, which from the colour chart looked like a nude/coral shade. When it arrived it was bright red (I was confused), I checked the colour chart to see whether I had made a mistake but it turns out ASOS had labelled the wrong shade. When I emailed them to alert them of the problem they said I could keep the lipstick I already had (as a thank you and a gesture of good will), and the correct nude/coral shade (shade 26) would be sent to me by next day delivery. I was pretty happy, it just shows the great customer service that ASOS have! Both of the shades are gorgeous! Shade 22 is a vivid red, while 26 is a very subtle nude/coral shade. The nude shade is very different for me, and I am not sure whether it suits me! I love the colour pay off and formulation of these lipsticks and would definitely recommend them!

I love ASOS, their customer service is amazing. I can’t help but give in to their flash discounts! Sorry bank account.

#13 Brand Focus – She Said Beauty

14 Nov

I am a lover of social media. I may also love beauty products (I don’t know if you’re aware…). What do you get if you mix the two together? She Said Beauty. I had been thinking about creating a She Said Beauty profile for quite a while now but I never really got around to it. When She Said Beauty followed me on Twitter, they told me about linking my profile to my blog. It sounded like a great idea to me, so I went for it and joined!

When you join they ask you a few questions (skin type, hair type, favourite scents etc), I presume that these are used if you subscribe to their beauty box, so they can choose products tailored to you. Their She Said Beauty box is £9.00 (+ £2.95 P+P). I have been close to subscribing so many times in the past! (Hate being a poor student, It would be great to review on this blog though) The packaging looks really nice and feminine too.

Once you have completed your beauty profile, you can start customising your profile. I uploaded a photo, wrote a little bit about me, and changed my cover photo to one of their default images.

This is where the social media comes in. You can link in all of your different social media platforms to your profile. I have linked my blog and my twitter. My blog has been synced, so my new blog posts will also show on my She Said Beauty profile.

HOW COOL RIGHT? After I had finished customising my profile I started to like some of my favourite brands and products.

I had to restrain myself from spending hours going through products and liking them! As well as liking them, you can also review them. This is super handy;  if I was considering purchasing a new beauty product I could consult She Said Beauty and see whether it has been good for other people (especially handy if what you were lusting over was quite costly, nobody wants to spend £20 on a new product and it turns out to be rubbish!!)

Another thing I like about She Said Beauty is that they are really in touch with their users. They are always tweeting, and having conversations with users. They post links to articles and beauty debates too, so everyone can get involved. Everyone knows I love a good competition or freebie (just check my twitter page!) and they have those too! Can they do no wrong?

Overall, I think I may be in love. I love the concept of She Said Beauty, bringing together beauty and social media. It is a great opportunity for everyone to get involved and join the beauty conversation! You can follow other peoples profiles, comment on new posts, and become a beauty community!

Fancy joining? GO FOR IT :) Join me and so many others. My username is BFLifexo (the same as my Twitter), you can find my profile here.

#11 Weekend Wishlist

11 Nov

Bonjourrrr, sorry for not posting yesterday. I was busy at Meadowhall doing some Christmas shopping, and brought myself a couple of treats too while I was there. Fingers crossed I will be able to do a blog post about them early next week (hopefully). This weekends wishlist is beauty themed. The list of beauty items I want is incredibly long, but I have narrowed it down to 5 items. I have tried to keep it quite varied too :)

Models Own Nail Polish in Thunder and Lightning, £5 – I have a thing for nail polishes, and this one is ticking all of the right boxes for me. It is a classic colour with a metallic sheen, with multicoloured glitter. I first saw this on the Models Own Swatched page (which is super handy) and it looked amazing. I tried to find it in Boots yesterday but they didn’t have it (super sad face). I may have to add this to my Christmas list, it would make a good stocking filler.

ELF Duo Eyeshadow Cream in Butter Pecan, £1.50 – ELF is a company that I have only recently found and I love them. I did a big order with them previously and ordered this in Sugar Cookie and was really impressed with the finish and pigmentation of it. The Butter Pecan shades are really autumnal and with them being browns they are wearable too. Did I mention the price? £1.50!!

Benefit They’re Real Mascara, £18.50 – I love my L’oreal Double Extension mascara but I think it may be coming to its end. I have read so many good reviews on this product, and costing £18.50 it needs to be good! I may treat myself to this using my Boots Advantage points after Christmas, and hopefully it will live up to the hype!

Soap and Glory Hand Food, £5 – Who doesn’t love Soap and Glory? and who doesn’t need another hand cream in their life?! I have had the mini size of this in the past and loved it. It smells amazing, leaves your hands feeling super soft and doesn’t come with a hefty price tag either.

L’occitane Ultra Rich Eye Balm, £24 – I have never used a L’occitane product before, but I have always read and heard good things. The one thing I hate about winter is how damaging it can be to my skin. It really dries it out, leaving it looking so dull. And recently I have noticed dry patches around my eyes and this looks like it should be able to help! It is quite costly at £24, but if it works I wouldn’t mind spending that much.

Have you used any of these products? Did you have a good or bad experience with them? Drop me a comment, tweet or email and get involved! You can find out my contact details here.

#7 Top A/W Nail Products

6 Nov

Hi guys! Sorry for not posting yesterday, I had a load of work to do which I am finding really challenging. I have an essay and presentation to prepare at the moment, not fun at all. But doing this post now is a nice little break from those! Hopefully there won’t be too many days where I don’t post. Fingers crossed :) Now for todays post, top autumn/winter nail products. These are 6 of my favourite nail polishes at the moment, perfect for seeing you through the transition to winter.

Barry M 3-in-1 Basecoat, Topcoat and Nail Harderner – I love Barry M, I have used their polishes ever since I was about 13. This 3-in-1 polish is an absolute essential, and only costs £2.95 (STEAL!). As a topcoat it gives a shiny finish and is great for preventing chips. I find that it leaves my polish chip-free for around a week.

Rimmel London Lasting Finish in 180 Purple Pulse – I picked this up when ASOS had money off Rimmel London a couple of months back. I think I got it for around £2, and it is really good value for money. It is not the most hard-wearing of polishes, but it gives a bright purple colour.

Avon SpeedDry+ Nail Enamel in Twilight Blue – This polish is a really deep navy, with a slight shimmer to it. The metallic finish looks really professional when applied with topcoat. And as the name suggests it dries really quickly, and is quite long-lasting too. I got this a while ago and I can’t remember how much exactly it cost, but I think around £5.

Barry M Nail Polish in 273 Raspberry – This is my favourite Barry M polish (apart from their pastel range which I adore). It is a perfect transitional colour and is a real classic. As always with Barry M polishes they give a great burst of colour and last ages with a topcoat. The photography is not doing this polish justice believe me!

Rimmel London 60 Seconds in 260 Funtime Fuschia – I know pink isn’t the most wintery of colours but I still love this. I guess I am still wishing it was summer when I didn’t have uni work to think of. But still, the colour is brilliant giving a vivid fuschia colour. The formulation is great, and the brush is also fab giving easy application.

Models Own hedkandi in Ibiza Mix – When the weather is all doom and gloom I like to add a bit of glitter to my nails! I usually just add glitter to my fourth finger on each hand. I add a layer of topcoat after applying this and after that it will not budge. It does take a couple of coats to build up a full glitter coverage. The only big downside about this is that it is a nightmare to remove.

Hope you enjoyed this post. If there is anything you would like me to post about just drop me a tweet or email!
