#58 MUA Artiste Collection Review

20 Mar

I purchased this palette during the MUA 50% off event (see my MUA haul here), and I have used it a fair few times since. You can buy MUA in Superdrug stores nationwide or online here.

MUA Artiste Collection

MUA Artiste Collection

MUA Artiste Collection

| MUA Artiste Collection, RRP £6 available online or in Superdrug stores |

The first thing I have to say about this products is that MUA have listened to their customers. The eyeshadows are named! It is only a little thing but it does make a big difference, well I think anyway. The palette includes 6 eyeshadows, which are of marbled effect. I really rate these eyeshadows, and the other MUA eyeshadows that are available. They are super pigmented and apply really well onto the eyelid. My favourite eye look with this palette is to apply Mocca to the eyelid and then add Cookie to the outer corner and through the crease, blending well. If you are looking for some great swatches of these eyeshadows then check this blog post by The Sunday Girl out, the swatches are great!

I’m afraid I didn’t really enjoy the four face products (2 blushes, 1 bronzer and a highlight) as much as the eyeshadows. They aren’t as pigmented as the eyeshadows which is a shame as the blusher shades would look great on someone with a paler skin tone. They might not be great if you have a darker skin tone, as the product may not show up. I found the blush shades quite hard to work with, but that may just be me! I like that they have included 1 shimmery blush and 1 matte shade though! The bronzer is ok, it isn’t brilliant but it does a decent job as a contour shade. The highlight shade is light and pearlescent and does look quite pretty.

Overall, I don’t really feel too strongly about this product. The eyeshadows are great, but the face products do let it down a bit. I would still recommend it for the eyeshadows alone at £6 though!

#55 My Five Product Face

22 Feb

I’ve seen a few of this kind of post dotting around the blogosphere so I decided to do it for myself. It was hard to choose just five but here is my five product face!

Five Product Face

Five Product Face

A good face product is essential so I chose the Maybelline Dream Fresh BB Cream (£7.99 from Boots here) and I have the shade Light. I love this as it is really easy to apply and the coverage is light-medium which is the ideal for me, I hate feeling cakey. It is SPF30 too which is great! I find it lasts me for the best part of the day, and it isn’t drying either giving a fresh, dewy look.

Five Product Face

I then chose the MUA Pro Brow Kit (£3.50 from the MUA online store here or in Superdrug stores) which is great little product. The packaging is great considering the price, and it comes with mini tweezers and a mini double-ended angled brush. I tend to mix the two top colours for my brows.

Five Product Face

There had to be a mascara right?! I have chosen the L’Oreal Volume Million Lashes mascara (£10.99 from Boots here). I actually have the limited edition Diamantissme mascara which I got free in a little set which I spoke about here. I love the brush and bristles on this baby, and it gives great definition and volume to the lashes.

Five Product Face

For cheek product, I chose my new current favourite blusher which is a MUA Blush Perfection cream blusher in Blossom (£2 from the MUA store online here or in Superdrug stores). I actually did a full review (+ Swatches) of this shade and the shade Dolly here, so definitely check that out! It is easy to apply and gives a natural flush of colour to the cheeks.

Five Product Face

I suffer from really dry lips, especially during the cold winters and this product (along with the Lush Bubblegum Lip Scrub) has saved my lips! It is the Burt’s Bees Replenishing Lip Balm with Pomegranate Oil (£3.69 from Boots here) and it smells so so good. A tube of this lasts a really long time, it gives a subtle colour to the lips and is so hydrating.

So there we have it! I hope you enjoyed this post, have you done your five product face? Leave your links in a comment below, I would love to read them!!

#53 Boots Haul

18 Feb

A week ago I did something a little bit naughty… yep this happened.

Boots Haul

I only intended to buy the Dr Jart BB Cream after being recommended it during the #bbloggers chat and it was even better as it had 1/3 off. But then I started having a good browse (as you do) and more things made their way into my basket. Next up was the Rimmel Lasting Finish polish in Pear Drop and Rimmel Pro colour polish in Aqua Cool, two really nice shades that will be great as we enter spring/summer. Rimmel is currently on 3 for 2, so I also picked up this Rimmel Scandal Eyes kohl liner in nude which I have been trying to get my paws on for quite a while. I couldn’t not look at my favourite brand, Soap and Glory right? Again 3 for 2 so I picked up the S&G Kick Ass Concealer, S&G Solar Powder and the S&G Archery brow pencil. And no guys it doesn’t stop there! I am running out of my night cream so I picked up this Vitamin E Night Cream, but it was 2 for £4… so…. I got the Vitamin E Eye Cream.

I just don’t know how this happened. But I am enjoying the products so hopefully I will be able to review some soon!

#51 Top Valentines Lip Products (+ Swatches)

14 Feb

With it being Feb 14th today, I thought I would do a date night inspiration type of post today, featuring 3 of my favourite lip products of late. They vary in colours and budgets too, so I hope there will be something for everyone.

Valentines Lips

Valentines Lips

From L -R:

| MUA Shade 16 – Nectar Lipstick, £1 | Rimmel – Kate Lasting Finish Lipstick in Shade 22, £5.49 via Boots | Soap and Glory Sexy Mother Pucker Lipgloss in Punchbowl, £9 via Boots |

Just a quick apology before I start. I really wanted to post photos of me wearing these lip products but my lips are so chapped and dry right now, that the photos would not do the products justice. Therefore I have stuck with swatches.

Firstly, MUA lipstick in Nectar. Wowza, for £1 this lipstick is full of pigmentation and coral goodness. Staying power isn’t perfect as you would expect from a £1 lipstick, but I would say it lasts for a couple of hours at least. For £1 you can’t complain. It is easy to apply, and is really moisturising. Up second is Rimmel – Kate Lasting Finish lipstick in shade 22. A classic red lip with a slight pink undertone, amazing pigmentation on this and it has a much greater staying power than the MUA lipstick. This product would be great if you were going for a simple make-up look but wanted to add a dash of vibrant colour to pull the whole look together. Super value for £5.49. And finally, a gloss for those who just don’t get along with lipstick, Sexy Mother Pucker in Punchbowl. A sheer but buildable pretty pink gloss from Soap and Glory, which gives you a tingly feeling when you apply leaving you with soft and plump lips. It does have quite a sticky consistency but it balances that with a great colour pay off and staying power, £9.

Happy Valentines everyone, I hope you all have a great day and that you enjoyed this post :)

#50 L’Oreal True Match Foundation Review

12 Feb

Back in December, I picked up the L’Oreal True Match foundation in Boots. Now, I had never used a L’Oreal foundation previously but I had heard good things so I gave it a go. The foundation claims to be super-blendable and match skin colour and texture.

L'Oreal True Match

L'Oreal True Match

L'Oreal True Match

L’Oreal True Match foundation, £10.29 in Boots (currently 2 for £15 on selected L’Oreal cosmetics!)

I purchased the shade D1WI Golden Ivory which is one of the lighter shades. I was really impressed with the wide variety of shades they have, it makes a change for a drugstore brand to have such a good range. It is a liquid foundation with a very fluid water-like consistency and it is indeed super-blendable. It does what it says on the tin, and I did notice how it evened out my skintone in places too. One pump is enough for me, and it applies so easily. It almost glides onto the face. I use my MUA F2 Stipple brush that I spoke about in my MUA Haul but it would work well with a standard foundation brush or even your fingers too. I would say it has a light to medium coverage which is what I look for in a foundation, I don’t like anything too heavy. But you could achieve a more fuller coverage look with this foundation by building it up without it looking cakey. I have super dry skin and it still worked well for me, it didn’t dry out my skin any further which is such a bonus. It lasted well in the winter weather too, I used my Rimmel Stay Matte powder on top to set it.

My final thoughts? I think this is a great foundation for anyone looking for a no fuss, flawless finish foundation on a budget. A true drugstore gem in my opinion.

#47 MUA Pro Blush Perfection Cream Blusher Review (+ Swatches)

7 Feb

You may have seen my MUA Haul post not so long ago, showing the abundance of MUA products that I purchased during their 50% event. Well I have been using them since they arrived so I thought I would do a review of the Blush Perfection Cream Blushers that I received.

MUA Cream Blusher

MUA Cream Blusher

MUA Cream Blusher

MUA Cream Blusher

MUA Cream Blusher

L – R: MUA Pro Blush Perfection Cream Blusher in Blossom and Dolly, £2 each

I absolutely love these. They cost £2 each which is amazing. Blossom is a beautiful dark peach colour, whereas Dolly is a more vibrant coral colour which will be great in the warmer months. The pigmentation and colour pay off when applied has been great too. The cream blusher is very build-able  you could use it just to add a touch of colour to the cheeks or apply a few layers for a really strong look. I personally use an angled blush brush to apply these, but they work really well if you use the fingers too. For £2 the packaging isn’t too shabby either and it is quite sturdy.

There are 2 other shades available, and they are definitely worth checking out when you are next in Superdrug! You can also purchase these products direct from MUA online. Have you tried these before? What did you think? :)

#44 MUA Haul

2 Feb

You may have heard about MUA, the budget beauty brand that is stocked online and in some Superdrug stores. Prices begin from £1 which is amazing! They have a Facebook page, search ‘Make Up Academy (MUA)’, which reached 50,000 likes a week or so ago. And when it did, they launched a 50% off everything offer with free delivery. As expected it caused absolute mayhem! I was able to place an order and here is what I purchased!

MUA Haul

MUA Haul

From L-R:

The Artiste Collection – £6 (£3 in the event)

Undressed Palette – £4 (£2)

Blush Perfection Cream Blusher in Dolly and Blossom – £2 each (£1)

Intense Gloss in Kiss and Make Up – £2 (£1)

Matte Perfect Primer – £4 (£2)

Brow Kit – £3.50 (£1.75)

Lipstick in Shade 4 and 16 – £1 each (50p!!)

Clear Mascara – £1 (50p)

Gel Eyeliner in Underground – £3 (£1.50)

Clear Nail Polish – £1 (50p)

L1 Lip Brush – £1.50 (75p)

E2 Eyeshadow Contour Brush – £1.95 (98p)

F2 Stippling Brush – £3 (£1.50)

E4 Eyeliner Brush – £1.50 (75p)

F1 Foundation Brush – £3 (£1.50)

So in total I spent £20.72 and got all of this goodness! I have been using the products since I got them and hopefully there will be some further reviews on some of the products! But I have to say I am SO impressed with the brushes! I would link the products listed above to the site but some of the products (most of the brushes) have sold out so are not available on the site! However, I have heard that they will be restocking early Feb, so be sure to get in there quick to avoid disappointment!

Were you able to place an MUA order? :)

#36 Boxing Day Sales Haul

27 Dec

Hi everyone, hope you all had a wonderful Christmas! Yesterday (Boxing Day) I was up at 5.30am to get ready for the sales! It is a tradition for my mum, aunt, cousin and I. We go every year! I didn’t actually get too much which was a bit of a disappointment. Here is what I purchased!

 Boxing Day Sales

First up Next, which was manic as it is every year! I couldn’t find too much that I really needed here. However, their homeware section is incredible and there were many bargains to be had! I got myself a new pair of jeans which are a bit of a brighter navy than normal for £10 (originally £20). I also picked up this hat which I thought was pretty cute for £3!

Boxing Day Sales

Secondly, Boots. I purchased two gift sets for myself that were half price. This 17 Eye and Lip Trio was £3 (originally £6) and I picked it up on a whim really. It contains a black liquid eye liner, an eyeshadow in the shade Regal and a lip gloss in the shade Very Berry. I just thought for £3 it was pretty good! I couldn’t resist this Soap and Glory set either. I received their Showers that Glee set for my birthday so there was no need for me to buy any bath/body products. However I have never used their make up so I thought I would get this and give it a try. The set cost £11 (originally £22) and contained the Love at First Blush blusher, Smoulder Kohl in black and Sexy Mother Pucker (best. name. ever.) in Punchbowl. I love them so far. I also purchased a couple of L’Oreal items that I needed. I have been looking for a new liquid eye liner for a while so I picked up this Super Liner Perfect Slim liner in Black. I was also in need of a new foundation so picked up the True Match foundation in Golden Ivory. Because I spent over £15 on L’Oreal products I received this free ‘Dress Up In Diamonds’ set!

Boxing Day Sales

In this free set, I received a sample pot of Revitalift (5ml), Volume Million Lashes Diamantissme (8.5ml), Color Riche Diamantissme Lipstick in 325 Ferric Fuschia, Color Riche Crystallisme Topcoat in number 820 (5ml) and a sample sachet of Nude Magique and True Match. I also received a money off voucher for the True Match foundation. I was quite impressed when I got home and saw what was inside! The lipstick is full size and the colour pay off is gorgeous!

Boxing Day Sales

And lastly New Look. I actually didn’t buy anything from their sale (I just couldn’t see anything!). However, I did pick up this bag for £19.99. I have been looking for a new handbag for a while and this fitted the bill for me! It is a versatile colour and is really quite spacious! It has an inside pocket too, handy for keys and my iPhone.

I hope you liked this post and picked up some bargains at the sales. If you did, tweet me, I want to know all about them!

J xo

PS. I haven’t included any links to the products as most are sale items and have sold out online. I looked for a link to New Look bag but it was not online either! Sorry guys!
