#33 Stylfile S-Clipper Review

22 Dec

Hi everyone! I love The Apprentice – I just can’t get enough of it. I never really used to get into it. I used to watch a few episodes and then be done with it until a couple of years ago, then I was hooked. This years Young Apprentice has just finished (yay Ashleigh!) but I do much prefer the ‘adult’ version (not that adult). A couple of years ago, Tom Pellereau won The Apprentice and an investment with Lord Sugar himself. After winning, Tom released his Stylfile brand whose products were focused around the natural curve of the nail. You can get all sorts of products – buffers, nail files but I will be talking about the nail clipper.

A couple of weeks ago I was lucky enough to be the runner up of a Twitter competition run by Stylfile. As you may be able to deduce from my tweets I do love a good competition and so I was thrilled to see that I was a runner up! I emailed through my address and within a couple of days my prize was at home waiting for me. I was so impressed with how quickly they posted my prize out to me!

S-Clipper

I have used this product a couple of times now and I am really pleased! The first thing to note is that it is made of surgical steel. This makes it strong and long-lasting, and makes cutting the nails so easy and simple. It even works on false nails! The best feature of the S-Clipper are the curved blades. They give a smooth and controlled cut to the nail and prevent clippings from flying all over the place (be honest, we have all been there) as the nail drops onto the surface below.

I think this is such a great product, I don’t know how there hasn’t been a product like this before!

The S-clipper is available at Sainsburys and also online at Amazon here.

#28 Rimmel London Precious Stones Ruby Crush Review

12 Dec

I love Rimmel London. I think it is one of the best drugstore brands around and I use their products everyday. They have had a great year I have to say! Their stand out product this year has to be their Wake Me Up foundation, I love it! Today I will be reviewing one of their nail polishes – Ruby Crush from their Precious Stones range.

Ruby Crush

I am currently wearing this on my nails, but I couldn’t get a good photo of them! The lighting was poor and it was not doing the polish justice! So I have just included the bottle. I am a lover of glitter polishes, a little sparkle helps to put me in a good mood and brighten my day! The first time I used this I applied it over the top of a coat of red polish and it gave a great finish. I then topped it off with my favourite top coat – Barry M 3 in 1. This time around I haven’t used it on top of anything else, instead I layered it up. It took 3 coats to give a full on opaque glitter look – but the finish is spectacular! So glittery and full of sparkle, with it being December it also puts me in such a festive mood with it being red glitter! Again I topped it off with Barry M 3 in 1 and it hasn’t chipped once! I have been complimented on it a couple of times now and they couldn’t believe it was a Rimmel polish! The only downside (as with all other glitter polishes I have used so far) is that they are a terror to remove! However, all in all I love this polish and Rimmel has done such a good job!

Rimmel London Precious Stones Ruby Crush Nail Polish retails for £3.99 and is available to buy at Boots here.

#23 November Favourites

5 Dec

It’s December!! Which means a few things: Christmas, my birthday and my November favourites. Here are a few of the products that I have really been enjoying over the past month. Sorry for the poor quality image guys!

November Favourites

This Burt’s Bees hand cream is a miracle worker on my hands. The Shea butter it contains is super moisturising and is brill during this time of the year when the weather is so harsh. It smells good too, and leaves my hands feeling super smooth. I was given this TIGI Bed Head Leave In Conditioner last year in a set with the corresponding shampoo and conditioner. This smells like heaven in a bottle, it is incredible. It smells like chocolate and toffees – amazing. It works great as a leave in conditioner too and I use it around once a week. It leaves my hair feeling really soft and looking super glossy. Avon released this Herve Leger fragrance a while ago, but I really enjoyed it this month. It is just a really classy and feminine scent, and it makes me feel really elegant. I want to do a whole blog post on it but I can’t find it on their online shop. I really hope they haven’t discontinued it – I have contacted Avon about this but I haven’t heard back yet, I will keep you updated! The lipstick featured is Avon Cranberry which is a gorgeous berry colour, it is quite a different colour for me but it isn’t too bold. Again I can’t find it online, sorry. I have been coming out with quite a few blemishes recently (not quite sure why) but I have been able to cover them really well with this Maybelline Dream Mousse Concealer which I purchased absolutely ages ago. I think this product may have been discontinued, but I love the Dream Mousse range – definitely check out the foundation if you are looking for a new foundation on a budget. Barry M NP325 Denim is one of the two polishes I purchased from ASOS this month, I instagrammed a photo of it on my nails which you can see here. It is a metallic blue colour, which with a top coat, lasted for over a week for me. I was so impressed. However, my favourite product of the whole month is a new one. It is the Lush Bubblegum Lip Scrub, I loved this product so much that I actually did a whole review of it. It has saved my lips, and it is my new holy grail product. I use it everyday and I don’t leave the house without it.

Hope you enjoyed this post guys – sorry for the lack of links for a couple of products! Also, I have internet again yay! So normal service will be resuming! What are your November favourites? Let me know, drop me a tweet, comment or email :)

#22 Brand Focus – Latest In Beauty

4 Dec

Hi guys! Sorry for the lack of posts over the past couple of days, something awful has happened at my house. WE HAVE LOST INTERNET. It really has come at the worst time as everyone is stressing over deadlines and essays etc, so we are all hiding out at the various libraries until we can get it fixed! We have rang our service provider, so hopefully we will have our broadband back very soon. It is so weird being without it, how did people cope before?! So I am currently posting from a University computer until further notice. Sorry if posts aren’t up to scratch, I’m trying hard but I won’t have all the same software that I have at home. Please bear with me!

Today’s post is a brand focus – Latest in Beauty. I found out about this site not so long ago. I saw their beauty advent calendar that they have put together in collaboration with YOU magazine. I have to say that this calendar is incredible. Behind every door is a beauty product, featuring some great brands such as Benefit and L’occitane. It is great value too, it retails at £59.95 (+ £2.95 P+p) but is worth £210. If I had the funds it would definitely be mine and I would review each product for you, it looks amazing. After having a look at their advent calendar and checking out the rest of their site I decided to sign up. When you sign up, you are asked a few questions about your skin/make up/hair needs.

Latest in Beauty is a website where are able to purchase samples (some are full size) at a good price. This is a great idea, I love the whole ‘try before you buy’ concept. I love using samples as I am able to try products and seeing what I think of it before I have to part with my money. This is especially true when the product in question is high end and expensive. They also offer something they call their ‘Little Beauty Box’. You are able to order 3 samples to try. The samples offered to you are products that correspond with the answers to the questions you answered when you first signed up. I think this is great as the products are personal to your needs. For example, I have really dry skin (especially in the winter) and one of the products that came up for me was a moisturiser for dry skin. I ordered my little beauty box and it came within a couple of days. They have a fast delivery and great customer service, this is something I always look for in a company.

The products I recieved are:

1. Tresemme Split Remedy Trio

“There’s nothing like freshly-cut hair to add a spring to your step, but over time split ends can make your hair look frizzy and dull. Introducing Tresemmé Split Remedy. The revolutionary Reconstructing Complex repairs up to 80% of the splits you have in just three uses – try Split Remedy shampoo and conditioner together or any other product in the line – and with regular use keeps working to help prevent new split ends from occurring and visibly maintain repair. So you can now retain the look & feel of a salon fresh-cut for longer. Sample includes 3 x 10ml sachets of Split Mend Shampoo, Split Mend Conditioner and Split Mend and Protect Leave In Treatment.”

2. Lavera Organic Wild Rose Moisturising Cream

“Lavera Faces Organic Wild Rose Moisturising Cream is full of moisture-rich organic plant-derived fluids from organic grapes, organic peaches, and organic apricots along with moisture boosting hyaluronic acid and soya liposomes. When the liposomes touch skin cells they burst open with moisture-rich ingredients to provide your skin with long lasting moisture. Lavera Faces Wild Rose Moisturising Cream leaves skin feeling wonderfully smooth.”

3. Japonesque Beauty Fixation Cuticle Conditioner

“24 pre-filled cuticle oil conditioner swabs.”

There wasn’t any more description that that for product 3 I’m afraid! :) I am using these products at the moment, so hopefully there will be a full review of each product up soon! But I just wanted to let everyone know about this great site, and what it offers!

Fingers crossed my internet will be back up and running soon!

#11 Weekend Wishlist

11 Nov

Bonjourrrr, sorry for not posting yesterday. I was busy at Meadowhall doing some Christmas shopping, and brought myself a couple of treats too while I was there. Fingers crossed I will be able to do a blog post about them early next week (hopefully). This weekends wishlist is beauty themed. The list of beauty items I want is incredibly long, but I have narrowed it down to 5 items. I have tried to keep it quite varied too :)

Models Own Nail Polish in Thunder and Lightning, £5 – I have a thing for nail polishes, and this one is ticking all of the right boxes for me. It is a classic colour with a metallic sheen, with multicoloured glitter. I first saw this on the Models Own Swatched page (which is super handy) and it looked amazing. I tried to find it in Boots yesterday but they didn’t have it (super sad face). I may have to add this to my Christmas list, it would make a good stocking filler.

ELF Duo Eyeshadow Cream in Butter Pecan, £1.50 – ELF is a company that I have only recently found and I love them. I did a big order with them previously and ordered this in Sugar Cookie and was really impressed with the finish and pigmentation of it. The Butter Pecan shades are really autumnal and with them being browns they are wearable too. Did I mention the price? £1.50!!

Benefit They’re Real Mascara, £18.50 – I love my L’oreal Double Extension mascara but I think it may be coming to its end. I have read so many good reviews on this product, and costing £18.50 it needs to be good! I may treat myself to this using my Boots Advantage points after Christmas, and hopefully it will live up to the hype!

Soap and Glory Hand Food, £5 – Who doesn’t love Soap and Glory? and who doesn’t need another hand cream in their life?! I have had the mini size of this in the past and loved it. It smells amazing, leaves your hands feeling super soft and doesn’t come with a hefty price tag either.

L’occitane Ultra Rich Eye Balm, £24 – I have never used a L’occitane product before, but I have always read and heard good things. The one thing I hate about winter is how damaging it can be to my skin. It really dries it out, leaving it looking so dull. And recently I have noticed dry patches around my eyes and this looks like it should be able to help! It is quite costly at £24, but if it works I wouldn’t mind spending that much.

Have you used any of these products? Did you have a good or bad experience with them? Drop me a comment, tweet or email and get involved! You can find out my contact details here.

#7 Top A/W Nail Products

6 Nov

Hi guys! Sorry for not posting yesterday, I had a load of work to do which I am finding really challenging. I have an essay and presentation to prepare at the moment, not fun at all. But doing this post now is a nice little break from those! Hopefully there won’t be too many days where I don’t post. Fingers crossed :) Now for todays post, top autumn/winter nail products. These are 6 of my favourite nail polishes at the moment, perfect for seeing you through the transition to winter.

Barry M 3-in-1 Basecoat, Topcoat and Nail Harderner – I love Barry M, I have used their polishes ever since I was about 13. This 3-in-1 polish is an absolute essential, and only costs £2.95 (STEAL!). As a topcoat it gives a shiny finish and is great for preventing chips. I find that it leaves my polish chip-free for around a week.

Rimmel London Lasting Finish in 180 Purple Pulse – I picked this up when ASOS had money off Rimmel London a couple of months back. I think I got it for around £2, and it is really good value for money. It is not the most hard-wearing of polishes, but it gives a bright purple colour.

Avon SpeedDry+ Nail Enamel in Twilight Blue – This polish is a really deep navy, with a slight shimmer to it. The metallic finish looks really professional when applied with topcoat. And as the name suggests it dries really quickly, and is quite long-lasting too. I got this a while ago and I can’t remember how much exactly it cost, but I think around £5.

Barry M Nail Polish in 273 Raspberry – This is my favourite Barry M polish (apart from their pastel range which I adore). It is a perfect transitional colour and is a real classic. As always with Barry M polishes they give a great burst of colour and last ages with a topcoat. The photography is not doing this polish justice believe me!

Rimmel London 60 Seconds in 260 Funtime Fuschia – I know pink isn’t the most wintery of colours but I still love this. I guess I am still wishing it was summer when I didn’t have uni work to think of. But still, the colour is brilliant giving a vivid fuschia colour. The formulation is great, and the brush is also fab giving easy application.

Models Own hedkandi in Ibiza Mix – When the weather is all doom and gloom I like to add a bit of glitter to my nails! I usually just add glitter to my fourth finger on each hand. I add a layer of topcoat after applying this and after that it will not budge. It does take a couple of coats to build up a full glitter coverage. The only big downside about this is that it is a nightmare to remove.

Hope you enjoyed this post. If there is anything you would like me to post about just drop me a tweet or email!
